Pack 6 Newsletter
Pacific Skyline Council, January, 2001
December’s always such an exciting month, with school vacations, the beginning of winter, and lots of parties. We hope that 2001, the beginning of the third millennium of the Common Era, brings you growth, health, and happiness.
Thank you to Don Danielson and his family for sharing their wonderful puppies with us at the December Pack meeting!
James B. and Michael H. from Den 1, Tom
L. from Den 6, and Nicolas L. from Den 8 all earned their Bobcats. This important award, which Cubs of all ages
earn, is the starting point on each advancement trail. Congratulations!
James B. earned his Recruiter’s Badge. This is a very important badge: it shows that James helped a friend join our Pack. This helps both the new Cub and the whole Pack. Congratulations, James: great going!
Pack 6 meets the second Tuesday evening each month, from 7-8pm, in the multi-purpose room at Palo Verde Elementary School. The “Pack Committee”—the adult leaders in the Pack—meets the first Wednesday of each month, 8-9pm, to make final plans for the Pack meeting.
Each February, we celebrate the birthday of Scouting, by having a special dinner for our Pack meeting that month. This year will follow the tradition, with the Blue & Gold Dinner on Tuesday evening, February 13, 2001, in the Palo Verde multi-purpose room.
Because of dinner, we’ll be starting at 6:30, instead of our usual 7pm. We’ll still plan to wrap up around 8, with some entertainment following dinner.
The Blue & Gold Committee has decided to hold a potluck dinner this year. Potlucks are a wonderful way to share and experience new and old favorites. And of course traditional cupcakes in the traditional colors will be served!
See the Blue & Gold Dinner flyer, or the Pack 6 Web site, for more information.
We’ll kick off our participation in the annual Friends of Scouting fund raising drive at the Blue&Gold Dinner. Pack 6 has always been an active participant in Friends of Scouting.
Remember to bring your checkbook with you to Blue&Gold!
It’s
almost Derby Time! Many Cub Scouts will tell you that Pinewood Derby is one of their favorite activities. Many former Cub Scouts remember Pinewood Derby with that same fondness.
Race Day 2001 will be on Sunday, March 11, with weigh-in (“tech inspection”) on Saturday the 10th. We’ll distribute the cars at Blue&Gold (if you can’t make the dinner, check with your Den Leader).
In addition to races for the boys, by age group, we’ll have an Open category for all non-Cubs: parents, siblings, adult leaders. And be sure to catch the Cubmaster’s Grudge Match!
Pacific Skyline Council’s championships will be held in conjunction with Scout-o-Rama in May. Stanford District hasn’t yet announced their schedule.
On a different note in the volunteer arena, the Pack needs to be looking ahead. Our Committee Chair, Don Danielson, has been graciously serving this year despite his son’s having graduated to Boy Scouts last year. Rich Swent, our Assistant Cubmaster, has done likewise.
Your Cubmaster’s son will be moving to Boy Scouts come April.
It’s time now to beginning planning for next year’s Pack leadership. If your son is enjoying Cub Scouts and you like working with kids, contact the Cubmaster (see the box at the end of the newsletter).
And, thank you to all who have volunteered this year, in any capacity!
We’ll hold the April meeting on the first Tuesday of the month (rather than the usual second Tuesday), because Palo Alto schools are closed for spring break that second week of April. Please note this!
