Recapping the Summer

Welcome to Pack 6.  Or, welcome back to Pack 6!  For many of us, it’s been a busy summer.  For our Pack, it started off with the June meeting, where we had a wonderful barbeque with some great games of Ultimate.  Activities continued in July with a meeting devoted to building model rockets, followed a couple of weeks later by a trip to BayNAR, one of the local model rocket clubs, to fly those rockets.  (We had a better turnout for our July meeting than for any other summer meeting in memory!)

Summer continued with the lull of August, though your Pack held its monthly meeting.  September came, and with it, we all returned to school.

Looking forward to Fall

Summer’s come and gone; fall is upon us.  What’s in store?  Here are a few things on the calendar.

·    November Pack meeting: A member of the U.S. Olympic Team, as a special guest.

·    Special November weekend (Sunday the 12th): Another rocket launch, by popular demand.

·    February: Our annual Blue and Gold Dinner, honoring the founding of Scouting.

There are many more exciting things in store for the Pack and for each of the dens.

Basic Schedule

As a reminder, Pack 6 meets the second Tuesday evening each month, from 7-8pm, in the multi-purpose room at Palo Verde elementary school.  The “Pack Committee”—the adult leaders in the Pack—meets the first Wednesday of each month, to make final plans for the Pack meeting.

There’s an excellent Scouters Roundtable the first Thursday of each month, where great information is exchanged about running a den or a pack.  Fabulous program ideas are discussed each month.  The Roundtable meets at the LDS Church on Jordan Avenue in Los Altos, from 7:30-9pm.  All adults involved in Scouting are welcome.

Awards

Michael B. earned his Webelos badge and his Compass Point emblem. Benny P. earned his Compass Point emblem and his Webelos Aquanaut activity pin.  Both are in Den 6.

Justin J. and Spencer B. earned their Wolf badges.  Both are in Den 8.

Hip-hip, hooray!

Scouting for Food

Each November, Pack 6 joins many other Scout units in an annual food drive called Scouting for Food.  The Cubs in the Pack will distribute bags to homes in our neighborhoods on Saturday, November 11th; we’ll pick them up the following week.  Each den will organize itself, so stay tuned to your Den Leader!

Volunteer!

One of the exciting things about being part of Pack 6 is the opportunity to be involved with the Scouting Movement.  In order for your Pack to be a success, in order for your Pack to serve the Cub Scouts in it, we need each family to be involved as a volunteer, in one way or another.

Volunteer jobs include everything from organizing a Pack field trip to helping out with the Blue and Gold Dinner, from serving as Assistant Cubmaster to helping out with the annual Scout-o-Rama, from being a Den Leader to being the Pack’s Friends of Scouting contact.

To volunteer, contact your Den Leader, or the Pack’s Cubmaster, Alan Marcum (phone: 856-4788; email: amm@RhinoAviation.com).

And, Thank You!

Thank you to those who’ve already volunteered.  A special thanks to the Pack Committee: Den Leaders Rick Deslauriers, Dave Killian, and Barbara Marcum; Assistant Cubmaster Rich Swent, and Pack Committee Chair Don Danielson.

Recruiter Award

There’s a new award available this year: the Recruiter Award.  Any boy who helps another boy join Cub Scouting by introducing him to the Pack will earn the Recruiter Award.  Bring in two new Cubs and you’ll earn both the patch and a pin!

Many great things happen when you earn the Recruiter Award:

·    You get to wear a cool patch.

·    A friend gets to enjoy the fun of Cub Scouts.

·    You have more fun, because you have another friend in your den, your pack.

·    Your pack is stronger, because there are more boys involved.

The Recruiter Awards will be given out for all new recruiting through the end of December.

In Closing…

We have a great year in store for u: Olympians, rockets, field trips, contests, Pinewood Derby, and much more.  Join us, and bring a friend!
