Pack 6 Newsletter
Pacific Skyline Council, November, 2000
Cubs from Pack 6 joined the BayNAR rocket club for a marvelous launch on Sunday, November 12. Though other Cubs were there, special congratulations to Justin Y. for his first flights!
Many thanks to BayNAR for hosting us again.
Some of the Pack 6 Webelos Scouts took advantage of a great open house, where most of the troops in the District had displays, leaders, and scouts available.
Many awards this month, as we recognize both achievement and persistence.
The following Cubs have all earned their 1 year service stars: Travis B., Spencer B., Mathew D., Robby H., Justin J., Simon K., all from Den 8.
2 year service stars go to Justin Y. (Den 8), Jacob S. (Den 7), Benny P. (Den 6), and Phillip W. (Den 6).
3 year service stars are awarded to Gaurav S. (Den 7), Conrad F. (Den 7), and Joshua M. (Den 6).
4 year service stars are awarded to Michael B. (Den 6) and Nikolos K.! (Den 7)
Michael B. (Den 6) has earned his Naturalist Activity Pin; Nikolos K., Jacob S., Conrad F., and Gaurav S. (all in Den 7) have all earned their Outdoorsman Activity Pin.
And to our adult leaders, we award the following Scouter Service Stars: 1 year to Rick Deslauriers and Roger Jue; 3 year to Barbara Marcum and Dave Killian. Many thanks for your dedication.
Hip-hip, hooray!
Pack 6 meets the second Tuesday evening each month, from 7-8pm, in the multi-purpose room at Palo Verde Elementary School. The “Pack Committee”—the adult leaders in the Pack—meets the first Wednesday of each month, to make final plans for the Pack meeting.
There’s an excellent Scouters Roundtable the first Thursday of each month, where great information is exchanged about running a den or a pack. Fabulous program ideas are discussed each month. The Roundtable meets at the LDS Church on Jordan Avenue in Los Altos, from 7:30-9pm. All adults involved in Scouting are welcome.
Each November, Pack 6 joins many other Scout units in an annual food drive called Scouting for Food. The Cubs in the Pack distributed bags to homes in our neighborhoods on Saturday, November 11th; we’ll pick them up on Saturday the 18th.
A special thank you to Conrad F.’s father, David, for coordinating Pack 6’s involvement!
One of the exciting things about being part of Pack 6 is the opportunity to be involved with your son in the Scouting Movement. In order for your Pack to be a success, in order for your Pack to serve the Cub Scouts in it, we need each family to be involved as a volunteer, in one way or another.
We particularly need volunteers for the following:
· Friends of Scouting: the local Council’s annual fundraiser.
· Newsletter Editor: produce this lovely piece each month.
· Scout-o-Rama: an exhibition of scouting skills.
· Assistant Cubmaster, Treasurer, and Committee Chair: help lead the Pack, ideally carrying over into next year.
To volunteer, contact your Den Leader, or the Pack’s Cubmaster, Alan Marcum (phone: 856-4788; email: amm@RhinoAviation.com).
And, thank you to all who have volunteered already!
There’s a new award available this year: the Recruiter Award. Any boy who helps another boy join Cub Scouting by introducing him to the Pack will earn the Recruiter Award. Bring in two new Cubs and you’ll earn both the patch and a pin!
Many great things happen when you earn the Recruiter Award:
· You get to wear a cool patch.
· A friend gets to enjoy the fun of Cub Scouts.
· You have more fun, because you have another friend in your den, your pack.
· Your pack is stronger, because there are more boys involved.
The Recruiter Awards will be given out for all new recruiting through the end of December.
