October Pack Meeting

Captain Ken Gonzalez from the Palo Alto Fire Department showed us one of the paramedic bicycles. Many of the boys recognized Ken from the bicycle safety classes he gives to the third-graders. He showed us the supplies he carries on the bike, told about how they are used, and answered lots of questions from boys and parents. Thanks again to Ken for coming.

Mountain Man Rendezvous

Many thanks to Boy Scout Troops 5 and 14 for hosting our Webelos at this campout at Boulder Creek Scout Reservation. The Boy scouts were excellent hosts. The boys got to make musket balls, rope, jerky, and candles. They had a chance to throw tomahawks, fire a flintlock rifle and try to start a fire with flint and steel. In the evening there was a great campfire ceremony with songs, skits, tall tales from the mountain men, and a rare opportunity to officially retire two American flags that had flown at Palo Verde.

Scouting for Food

Our annual food drive will be taking place this month. Ben L. is once again organizing out effort. Dens will distribute empty plastic bags on November 13 and pick up the food on November 20. Den leaders will arrange for Scouts (in uniform) to do this as a group. Each den will have a territory assigned to it. The Tiger Cubs will go with the fifth grade Webelos.

Genius Night

All Scouts should receive a Genius Night kit from their Den Leader. Each kit has an identical set of parts donated by families. The boys may use these parts, plus tape, glue and lots of ingenuity to build whatever creation they desire. At the December meeting all the creations will be on display, and there will be prizes for the best designs in various categories.
