What a month November was. We participated in Scouting for Food: dropping off the bags, and then picking them up again. It’s a great program for getting kids involved in their community, helping out in an important, meaningful way. Our Tiger Cubs even joined in!
Highlight of the month was an inspiring visit from Nicole Freedman, member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic bicycling team! Nicole’s story, of making the team by winning the tryouts, and then competing in Sydney, was warm and fascinating. Her courage and her geniality were both evident throughout the evening. Nicole also helped out with uniform inspection and our awards ceremony.
Thank you to David Foo for his help with Scouting for Food, and to Rich Swent for arranging Nicole’s visit.
Thank you to Piazza’s Fine Foods, in Charleston Shopping Center, for donating bags for the Genius Kits.
And, of course, thank you to Nicole!
Tiger Cubs are on the move! David C., Derek C., and Kyle E. have all earned their Belt Totems and a bead, along with Tiger Paws 1 and 7. Way to go!
Michael B. earned his Traveler Webelos activity pin; he, Joshua M., Phillip W., and Benny P. all earned their Ready Man activity pin. Benny P., Joshua M., and Phillip W. also earned their Compass Point emblems; Michael B. earned a Compass Point. All four Cubs are from Den 6.
Justin Y. earned his Recruiter’s Badge. This is a very important badge: it shows that Justin helped a friend join our Pack. This helps both the new Cub and the whole Pack. Congratulations, Justin: great going!
Pack 6 meets the second Tuesday evening each month, from 7-8pm, in the multi-purpose room at Palo Verde Elementary School. The “Pack Committee”—the adult leaders in the Pack—meets the first Wednesday of each month, 8-9pm, to make final plans for the Pack meeting.
Each February, we celebrate the birthday of Scouting, by having a special dinner for our Pack meeting that month. This year will follow the tradition, with the Blue & Gold Dinner on Tuesday evening, February 13, 2001, in the Palo Verde multi-purpose room. Put it on your calendar, and stay tuned.
One of the exciting things about being part of Pack 6 is the opportunity to be involved with your son in the Scouting Movement. In order for your Pack to be a success, in order for your Pack to serve the Cub Scouts in it, we need each family to be involved as a volunteer, in one way or another.
We particularly need volunteers for the following:
To volunteer, contact your Den Leader, or the Pack’s Cubmaster, Alan Marcum (phone: 856-4788; email: amm@RhinoAviation.com).
And, thank you to all who have volunteered already!
As reported above, Justin Y. earned his Recruiter Badge. This award, given to any Cub who helps another boy join Cub Scouting, will be available only through the end of December. Qualify by then and you, too, can wear the badge! Introduce two new boys to Cub Scouting, and you earn the Recruiter Pin!
Yes, it’s only December, but we thought we’d include this now to give you advance notice.
The April meeting will be held the first Tuesday of the month (rather than the usual second Tuesday), because Palo Alto schools are closed for spring break that second week of April. Please note this!
Friends of Scouting is our Council’s annual fund raising drive. Pack 6 has always been a strong supporter of the event. We’re looking for a volunteer to be our Friends of Scouting coordinator for this year.
Though this might sound daunting, it’s really one of the simplest ways to fulfill your volunteer commitment to the Pack.
Contact the Cubmaster to volunteer, or for more information.
