skunk

Mountain Man

Thanks to mountain man Bob L. for showing us some neat stuff and telling some interesting stories about the fur trappers in the wild west. The furs he brought were great, and the skunk didn't even smell! It must have been very difficult to live under those conditions.

Awards

Congratulations to Michael B., who earned his soccer belt loop. Zachary H. received his Webelos Activity pin for Handyman, and Justin S. received Webelos Activity pins for Handyman and Engineer. Seth D. and Jacob S. received their National Summertime Awards and Pack 6 also received the National Summertime Pack Award for having 3 summertime pack meetings. Another ribbon for our flag! Hrishi S., Gaurav S., Andrew L. and Justin S. also received arrow heads in appreciation for their extra assistance setting up for the pack meetings.

Bowling Field Trip

We had a wonderful time at the bowling alley. It's a good thing they had those bumpers, because we might have worn out the gutters otherwise. There were a few magnificent strikes and some extremely close "wobblers". The boys did quite well, and even Bridget K. got a strike! Thanks to Mike P. for making the arrangements. We had about 15 Cubs and an equal number of parents and siblings.

Miniature Golf Field Trip

We will have a pack outing to go miniature golfing in February. Meet us at the course. The cost is $3.75 per person for an 18-hole game. For more information call your Den Leader.

racing car

Pinewood Derby

This is the highlight of the year for many boys. Our event is coming up in March. Den Leaders have a car for each Scout. The weigh-in will be the day before the race, and there will be a workshop at Don D's house a week before the race for boys without access to tools. We could always use more volunteers to help make this exciting event even more special. Remember that the boys are supposed to design and build the car with help from parents. There is an "open" category for non-Cubs who want to build and race cars.

money

Friends of Scouting

This annual fund-raiser is finishing now. If we meet our goal, we get a discount at the Scout Store!

arrow of light patch

Arrow of Light

The next pack meeting, in March, will be the Arrow of Light Ceremony. This highest award of Cub Scouts will be given to our Fifth Grade Webelos in a special ceremony.

first aid kit

Youth Protection

The Scout office at Lucie Stern has a videotape, "It Happened to Me", which is aimed at 6-9 year old boys and which can be checked out for viewing. It educates boys and parents about how to recognize child abuse and what to do to prevent it or deal with it. This is something that few of us are comfortable discussing, but children need to know that they can talk with their parents on these subjects. Just like First Aid, we hope they never need it but we want them to be prepared in any case.

Summer Camp

The summer camp schedule is now available at the Scout Office or from your Den Leader. If you can attend either week of the resident camp, please choose the second week so more of our pack members can be there at the same time.

Joke of the Month

cartoon horse

A women was considering buying an aging thoroughbred but wanted a vet's opinion of the horse before finalizing her deal. She asked when the doctor had completed his examination, "Will I be able to race him?" The veterinarian looked at the woman, then at the horse. "Sure" he replied, "and you'll probably win!"
