We started on the Green River right below Flaming Gorge Dam. It was a 1,500 foot deep canyon. There were 12 canoes and 2 support rafts. The water was so clear you could count the trout.
The first day of our trip was mostly class 1 and class 2 rapids. We tried to get every body situated in the canoes and enjoy the scenery. But there were rapids, like class III Mother-In-Law, and 4 canoes dumped over, including Kevin and Lynn!
That night we had a huge dust storm that coated us with ash.
The second day we came to a really challenging rapid called Red Creek, where the canoes were lined down, but the rafts ran the rapids.
Here Ian is running the rapid with Tim "Tibbles" Dodson.

All had a good run down lower Red Creek, then we spotted a juvenile male moose and got real close!

After a long day of canoeing, we were able to relax at camp, enjoy some fishing and down-time.
On the third day we went for it and canoed over 21 miles! We were sooo tired!
On the fourth day we slept in late and then went to the dinosuar fossil bone quarry and to Indian rock art sites.

A highlite for many of us was on day 5 when we started a one day rafting trip through Split Mountain Gorge in Dinosaur National Monument

We learned about rafting safety and how to be a paddle captain from Ty and the other guides.
We had both inflatable kayaks and paddle rafts.
Some of us just let the current take us down.

And some of us just let the guide do all of the work.
There were fun times on Bubbles' Boat.
But before we departed we got wet one last time (see the buckets of water about to land on us). The Green River trip left us all with great memories, a bunch of merit badges, smiles all around and even a full moon.
And then there was still water skiing and the train ride to come.
