Unit Web Page Rules

When we create a directory for you, we ask that you follow these rather easy rules:

Youth protection and privacy guidelines:

No identifiable youth pictures or last names on publicly accessible pages. First name with first letter of last name however is OK for all positions including boys.
No private home addresses.
No private home phone numbers.
Parental permission required before publishing such information. You must note on the page that you have such permission.

We are are less worried what a youth can access; the real problem is who can access our youth !!!

Official, officious, ...

Do not make your pages look more official then they are: do not represent the council or BSA, not even to casual readers. Text and style must make this clear, even if your page is addressed out of context.

You cannot imagine how naive some readers can be.

Responsibility

There must be an adult taking responsibility for what happens on your webpage.
Youth may develop web pages but only a responsible adult gets publishing access to public directories on our server.

a) Because the web is a public medium. b) Because the webmaster needs an adult to talk to.

Laws

Follow all applicable laws, copyright laws, and especially the scout law.

Appropriateness

No inappropriate contents; don't link to pages which might have inappropriate contents.
All pages must be appropriate for a scouting audience.
No commercial endorsements.
Your page must be "compatible" with scoutway.

Ask the webmaster for what is appropriate or compatible.

Limitations

Respect limits of our technology and of what we can handle. This service is a privilege, not a right. The rules may change due to experiance or technological progress.

Please talk to the webmaster if you have questions about these rules.
